Set Your Members' Language
Pick the language your bot, checkout, storefront and receipts speak, decide whether Arcalotl follows each member's own language, and see what stays in your words.
Arcalotl speaks English until you change it. Two rows in Settings > Language decide what your members hear: the language your community speaks, and whether a member who reports a different one gets theirs instead.
Both default to off for every existing community, so nothing your members see changes until you set them.
The two rows
| Row | What it does | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Members' language | The language the bot, checkout, storefront and receipts use for this community | English |
| Follow each member's language | When a member's Discord, Telegram or browser reports a language Arcalotl supports, that member gets it instead | Off |
Both rows save the moment you change them, and a line under the panel confirms what changed. If your Discord server has a preferred locale that Arcalotl supports, the first row offers it as a one-click suggestion. It is only ever a suggestion; nothing is set from it automatically.
Languages available today: English, Svenska, Francais and Deutsch.
How a language is chosen
For anything addressed to one member, Arcalotl takes the first of these that has a value:
- The language that member picked themselves, in the storefront, checkout or member portal footer.
- The language their client reports, if Follow each member's language is
on. That is the Discord or Telegram client language, or the browser's
Accept-Languageheader on the web. - Your community's Members' language.
- English.
Anything many members read at once skips step 1 and step 2 and uses your community language: announcements in a channel, the pinned subscribe message, and any message the bot posts to a channel rather than to a person.
Where a member can switch
- Checkout: a picker in the page footer. Switching also switches Stripe's own payment form and the receipt that follows.
- Storefront: a picker in the footer, which you can hide in the storefront builder.
- Member portal: a picker in the footer. A signed-in member's choice is saved on their account and drives every email Arcalotl sends them afterwards.
A member who has never chosen is never asked; they simply get the language from step 2 or step 3.
What stays in your words
Arcalotl translates its own copy only. These are shown exactly as you wrote them, in every language:
- Plan names, descriptions and tier names
- Donation labels and suggested amounts
- Discount code names
- Storefront text, headings and block content
- Welcome, subscribe and announcement messages you wrote yourself
- Your community name and your Stripe statement descriptor
If you sell to one language, write those in it. If you sell to several, the language rows change the frame around your words, not the words.
What it does not change
Your own dashboard language is a separate setting, on the Account page of the dashboard, and it also covers the emails Arcalotl sends you as the creator. Changing your community's members' language does not change either.
Amounts stay in the currency of the plan. Only the formatting of the number and the date follows the language.
